Inner right-hand tie rod end for 1961-1974 Pontiac vehicles designed to restore steering precision and safety. This replacement part secures the inner end of the steering linkage to the steering rack or center link, maintaining proper alignment and reducing play in the steering system. Engineered for durability with corrosion-resistant materials and a sealed ball joint, it delivers reliable performance for classic car restoration or routine maintenance. Easy to install for mechanically inclined enthusiasts, it helps eliminate steering wander, uneven tire wear, and noisy operation.
Features:
- Fits 1961-1974 Pontiac models (inner tie rod end, right hand side).
- Replacement inner tie rod end that secures steering linkage and restores proper steering geometry.
- Durable construction with corrosion-resistant finish for long service life.
- Sealed ball joint reduces ingress of dirt and moisture to extend component life.
- Helps eliminate steering play, reduce vibration, and prevent premature tire wear.
- Direct-fit replacement for restoration and maintenance applications; straightforward installation.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 60-120 minutes
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen lug nuts slightly, lift front of vehicle with floor jack and support on jack stands. Remove front wheel to access steering components.
- Locate the inner right-hand tie rod end where the steering rack or center link connects to the inner rod.
- Apply penetrating oil to fasteners and let soak if bolts are corroded or tight.
- Loosen the jam nut on the tie rod end and count or measure the number of turns required to unthread the outer tie rod from the inner — this preserves approximate toe alignment.
- Remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the castle nut or retaining nut securing the inner tie rod end to the steering linkage.
- Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the linkage; avoid hammering the steering arm directly to prevent damage.
- Unscrew the inner tie rod end from the rack or inner tube. If replacing only the inner end, hold the inner tube stationary while unthreading.
- Install the new inner right-hand tie rod end by threading it to the same position or the same number of turns measured earlier to approximate alignment.
- Tighten the jam nut and torque the retaining fasteners to the manufacturer's specification. Install a new cotter pin if applicable.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to spec.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering geometry and tire wear.
