Front upper ball joint designed for 1955–1982 Chevrolet passenger cars and light trucks. This direct-fit replacement secures the upper control arm to the steering knuckle, maintaining proper suspension geometry and steering control. Built for long-term wear resistance, it restores factory alignment, reduces play and vibration, and helps prevent premature tire wear. Ideal for restoration projects and routine suspension maintenance, this part provides reliable performance and straightforward installation for both left and right front positions.

  • Ball joint separator or pickle fork
  • Hammer
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Wrenches
  • Grease gun (if greaseable)
  • Penetrating oil
Instructions:
  1. Park on a level surface, engage parking brake, loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
  2. Raise the vehicle with a jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
  3. Apply penetrating oil to the upper ball joint nut and mounting bolts; allow to soak if corroded.
  4. Remove the cotter pin and loosen the castle nut on the upper ball joint stud but do not remove it completely.
  5. Use a ball joint separator or pickle fork to separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle. Strike the knuckle if necessary to free the stud.
  6. If applicable, remove any retaining bolts or snap rings securing the ball joint to the control arm. Press or unbolt the ball joint from the control arm per vehicle specifics.
  7. Clean the control arm bore and mating surfaces. Inspect the control arm and knuckle for damage; replace if necessary.
  8. Install the new ball joint into the control arm, aligning mounting holes. Secure with supplied bolts or press into place; tighten to manufacturer torque specifications.
  9. Insert the ball joint stud into the steering knuckle, thread on the castle nut and torque to specification. Install a new cotter pin if required.
  10. If greaseable, apply lubricant via the zerk fitting until fresh grease appears at the boot edge.
  11. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to spec. Test drive and recheck torque and alignment; perform wheel alignment if necessary.
