Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise vehicle with jack, and secure on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Locate the inner tie rod on the steering rack and apply penetrating oil to fasteners if corroded.
- Loosen the jam nut on the tie rod assembly and mark the position of the outer tie rod relative to the inner for reassembly reference.
- Remove cotter pin and loosen the castle nut (if equipped) or retaining fastener on the outer tie rod end, then separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or pickle fork.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner to expose the inner tie rod end, then remove any retaining clip or nut holding the inner tie rod to the steering rack.
- Use an inner tie rod tool or appropriate wrench to unthread and remove the inner tie rod from the steering rack.
- Install the new inner tie rod by threading it into the steering rack to the marked position or factory specification. Tighten to the vehicle manufacturer's torque specification.
- Reattach the outer tie rod and adjust to match the original measurement or approximate alignment; tighten the jam nut to secure the assembly.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, torque wheel lug nuts to specification, and perform a professional wheel alignment as soon as possible.
