This inner tie rod end (Left Hand 5/8-18) is a direct-fit steering component designed for 1978–1995 Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Oldsmobile and Pontiac models. It secures the inner end of the steering rack or center link to the outer tie rod assembly, maintaining accurate steering geometry and responsive handling. Built for durability and reliable performance, this tie rod end restores steering precision, reduces play and vibration, and supports safe, predictable vehicle control. Easy to install and suitable for restoration or routine suspension maintenance.

  • Penetrating oil
Instructions:
  1. Secure vehicle on level ground, chock rear wheels, raise front and support on jack stands.
  2. Remove the front wheel to access the steering linkage.
  3. Apply penetrating oil to the tie rod end threads and nut; loosen the jam nut between inner and outer tie rod if present.
  4. Disconnect the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or pickle fork, then unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner to free the assembly if needed.
  5. Remove the retaining nut on the inner tie rod stud and separate the inner tie rod from the steering rack or center link.
  6. Unscrew the old inner tie rod from the rack; clean threads and inspect rack for damage.
  7. Thread the new inner tie rod (Left Hand 5/8-18) onto the rack to the same approximate engagement depth as the old part; tighten to manufacturer torque specs.
  8. Reattach the steering linkage and tighten the retaining nut to specified torque. Reinstall jam nut and set approximate toe by matching previous alignment measurements or counting turns.
  9. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to spec.
  10. Have a professional wheel alignment performed to ensure correct steering geometry and tire wear.
