Direct-fit idler arm designed for 1964–1972 Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Oldsmobile and Pontiac steering systems. This OEM-style idler arm supports the center link (13/16" diameter) to maintain correct steering geometry, reduce play, and restore factory steering feel. Built to resist wear and corrosion, it provides reliable alignment support and smooth steering response—ideal for restoration projects or routine suspension maintenance where durable, accurate steering components are required.
Features:
  • Fits 1964–1972 Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Oldsmobile and Pontiac vehicles with a 13/16" diameter center link (OEM fitment).
  • OEM 13/16" center-link bore for direct replacement and correct steering geometry.
  • Constructed from heavy-duty materials for long-lasting durability and corrosion resistance.
  • Restores steering alignment and reduces play for improved handling and safety.
  • Easy-to-install design for restoration or routine suspension repairs.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 45-90 minutes
Suggested Tools:
  • Jack and jack stands
  • Wheel chocks
  • Socket set and ratchet
  • Wrenches
  • Torque wrench
  • Ball joint/ball stud separator (pickle fork) or puller
  • Pry bar
  • Penetrating oil
  • Hammer
  • Grease (if applicable)
Instructions:
  1. Park on a level surface, chock rear wheels, loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
  2. Raise the front of the vehicle and secure with jack stands; remove the front wheel on the side you're working.
  3. Locate the idler arm connected to the frame and the center link; apply penetrating oil to mounting nuts/bolts and allow to soak.
  4. Remove the nut(s) securing the idler arm to the frame and the nut or nut/bolt at the center link. Use a ball joint separator or puller to separate the stud from the link if necessary.
  5. Support the center link with a pry bar to prevent sudden movement and remove the idler arm from its mounting stud(s).
  6. Compare the new idler arm to the old unit to confirm correct orientation and fit (verify 13/16" center link bore).
  7. Install the new idler arm onto the frame stud(s) and engage the center link. Start nuts by hand to ensure proper thread engagement.
  8. Torque all fasteners to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications using a torque wrench.
  9. If the idler arm has a grease fitting, apply a few pumps of chassis grease until new grease appears at the seals.
  10. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, torque wheel lug nuts to spec, and road-test. Have a wheel alignment performed if steering pull or irregular tire wear persists.
