Adjusting sleeve designed for restoring proper steering linkage length and alignment on classic American cars and trucks. This 3/4"-18 UNF threaded sleeve provides a secure connection between tie rod ends or drag links, allowing for fine adjustment of toe-in and steering geometry. Built to resist corrosion and wear, the sleeve is an essential replacement when original sleeves are worn, bent, or corroded, helping restore precise steering response and improve safety. Compatible with a wide range of late-1950s to late-1970s Buick, Dodge, Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Oldsmobile, and Plymouth models, it’s ideal for restoration projects or routine suspension maintenance.
Features:
- Fits 1957–1978 Buick, Dodge, Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Oldsmobile and Plymouth models that use a 3/4"-18 UNF steering/tie rod adjusting sleeve.
- 3/4"-18 UNF precision threads ensure accurate length adjustment and secure clamping of tie rod ends or drag link components.
- Durable metal construction resists wear and provides long service life under steering loads.
- Restores correct steering geometry to reduce tire wear and improve handling during restorations or repairs.
- Simple, reversible replacement — allows fine toe-in adjustment without replacing entire steering assemblies.
- Corrosion-resistant finish improves longevity compared with aged or rusted original sleeves.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 15–30 minutes
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, and lift vehicle with jack stands if additional access is needed.
- Loosen the jam nuts on the existing tie rod ends or drag link on both sides of the sleeve using appropriate wrenches; apply penetrating oil if nuts are seized.
- Unthread and remove the old or damaged adjusting sleeve. If the sleeve is corroded, use penetrating oil and gentle tapping to free it. Use a vice or soft-jaw pliers to protect threads if needed.
- Inspect inner tie rod end threads and outer rod threads for damage; clean threads and remove debris or rust.
- Thread the new 3/4"-18 UNF adjusting sleeve onto one end until roughly centered between the two tie rod ends or until desired baseline alignment is achieved.
- Attach and thread the tie rod ends or drag link into each end of the sleeve by rotating the rods rather than the sleeve to maintain orientation, then tighten jam nuts against the sleeve to lock the adjustment.
- Perform a preliminary alignment check (measure toe or have a shop check alignment) and make fine adjustments by turning the sleeve or tie rods as needed, then re-tighten jam nuts to specification.
- Lower the vehicle and test drive at low speed to confirm steering response; recheck jam nuts and alignment after initial road test.
