MCK-1211-68 is a complete molding clip kit designed to securely fasten windshield and rear window moldings on 1968-1972 Chevrolet El Camino 2‑door hardtop models. These corrosion-resistant clips restore proper fit and alignment of exterior glass trim, helping eliminate wind noise, rattle, and water intrusion. Built for durability and an accurate OE-style fit, the kit simplifies restoration and replacement projects with reliable retention and straightforward installation.
Features:
- Fits 1968-1972 Chevrolet El Camino 2-door hardtop models (windshield and rear window moldings).
- Includes corrosion-resistant metal and durable plastic clips engineered for OEM-style fitment.
- Secures exterior windshield and rear window moldings to reduce vibration, wind noise, and leaks.
- Designed for restoration or replacement projects to return trim to factory alignment and appearance.
- Easy to install with common hand tools; clips snap into place for reliable retention and long service life.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-60 minutes (per window, depending on access and rust/adhesive removal)
Instructions:
- Park the vehicle on a level surface and protect painted surfaces with masking tape or fender covers.
- Carefully remove the existing molding: use plastic trim tools and screwdrivers to pry the molding away from the glass/frame without scratching paint or glass.
- Remove and discard old clips and any remaining adhesive, rust, or debris from the clip channel. Use cleaning solvent and a lint-free cloth to ensure a clean surface.
- Test-fit a new clip in the channel to confirm orientation and placement. Note clip spacing and retention points from the factory location or the old clips.
- Install new clips into the channel at the appropriate intervals. Push clips in until they fully seat; a rubber mallet can be used gently if needed.
- Lubricate the molding edge lightly with silicone spray or soapy water to ease installation. Align the molding and press it into the installed clips, working from one end to the other until each clip engages with an audible click.
- Trim or adjust the molding ends as required for a flush fit. Re-check alignment and ensure the molding is seated evenly with no gaps.
- Clean any fingerprints or lubricant residue from glass and trim. If the windshield or rear window was removed, follow glass installer guidelines for reinstallation and sealing.
- Test for secure fit by gently tugging along the molding and perform a water test or short road test to confirm there are no leaks or wind noise.
