Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts, lift vehicle with a jack and secure on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Locate the tie rod end and mark the position of the existing outer tie rod on the threaded portion with a marker to preserve alignment.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod and back it off a few turns.
- Remove the cotter pin (if equipped) and unfasten the castle nut or retaining nut from the tie rod stud.
- Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle; avoid excessive force to prevent damage.
- Unscrew the old tie rod end from the inner tie rod, counting turns or referencing the mark to maintain approximate alignment.
- Thread the replacement tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the marked position or the same number of turns counted during removal. Tighten the jam nut against the tie rod end.
- Insert the tie rod stud into the steering knuckle and secure with the castle nut or retaining nut. Torque to vehicle specification and install a new cotter pin if required.
- Attach a grease gun to the grease port on the bottom cap and apply grease until the joint is properly lubricated.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional alignment performed to ensure proper toe and steering geometry after installation.
