Trunk floor extension / drop-off panel designed for 1970-1972 Chevrolet Chevelle (except wagon) to restore the trunk's original geometry and structural support. This direct-replacement panel fills the rear trunk drop-off area, providing a factory-style contour that supports trunk liners and prevents moisture intrusion. Manufactured from formed, corrosion-resistant steel and engineered for easy fitment, it delivers long-lasting durability, reliable alignment, and straightforward installation for restoration or rust-repair projects.
Features:
- Fits 1970-1972 Chevrolet Chevelle (except wagon).
- Formed, factory-style steel panel that restores original trunk contour and support.
- Pre-drilled/marked weld locations for easy plug or spot welding.
- Pre-coated to resist surface corrosion during storage and assembly.
- Restoration-grade part that prevents water intrusion and prolongs trunk life.
- Direct-fit design reduces trimming and fabrication for quicker installation.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 2-4 hours
Instructions:
- Prepare the vehicle: remove trunk trim, mat, and any components covering the repair area. Disconnect battery if welding.
- Assess and mark: measure and mark the rusted or damaged drop-off area to be removed, using the new panel as a template for fitment.
- Cut out old metal: remove the damaged trunk floor/drop-off section using an angle grinder or spot-weld cutter, keeping as much solid surrounding metal as possible.
- Clean and fit: grind back to clean, solid metal, trial-fit the replacement panel, and trim as needed for a flush, gap-free fit.
- Prepare weld locations: drill out plug/spot weld holes or align with the panel’s pre-marked weld points.
- Clamp and tack: clamp the panel into position, verify alignment, and tack-weld at multiple points to hold fitment.
- Finish welds: complete plug or stitch welds around the perimeter, avoiding excessive heat buildup. Allow metal to cool between passes.
- Grind and smooth: grind welds flush where required and clean the area of slag and debris.
- Seal and protect: apply seam sealer to all seams, coat with rust-inhibiting primer, and paint to match the trunk interior.
- Reassemble: reinstall trunk components, mat, and trim. Inspect the repair for leaks and proper fit.
