Direct-fit front disc brake backing plates engineered for 1981–1988 A- and G-Body vehicles. These backing plates shield the rotor and brake hardware from road debris, water, and corrosive elements while providing a stout mounting surface for parking brake components and related hardware. Manufactured from durable, formed steel with a corrosion-resistant finish, they offer reliable, OEM-style fitment that simplifies brake system restoration and replacement. Ideal for restoration projects or routine brake maintenance where durability, correct alignment, and ease of installation are important.
Features:
- Fits 1981–1988 GM A-Body and G-Body passenger cars (front disc brake applications).
- Precision-formed steel construction for strength and long service life.
- Corrosion-resistant finish protects against rust and road contaminants.
- Protects rotors and brake components from debris, splash, and moisture.
- Direct-fit replacement that uses original mounting points for easy installation.
- Supports parking brake hardware and helps maintain proper brake alignment.
- Ideal for restoring original appearance and function during brake repairs.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 1–2 hours (both sides)
Instructions:
- Park on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and loosen wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Lift the vehicle with a floor jack and secure it on jack stands. Remove the wheels.
- Remove the brake caliper(s) and hang them out of the way with a caliper hanger or bungee; do not let the caliper hang by the brake hose.
- Remove the brake rotor. On some vehicles you may need to remove retaining screws, the hub nut, or the wheel bearing dust cap—refer to vehicle-specific service manual as required.
- Inspect and clean the knuckle mounting area with a wire brush and apply penetrating oil to any seized fasteners.
- Remove the backing plate retaining bolts and remove the old backing plate. Note the orientation of parking brake or sensor brackets for reinstallation.
- Position the new backing plate into place, aligning it with the knuckle and any parking brake or sensor mounting points.
- Install and hand-tighten the backing plate bolts, then torque them to factory specifications.
- Reinstall the rotor and brake caliper. If removed, reinstall any hub or bearing components per service manual.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specification.
- Test brake operation at low speed to ensure proper function and check for unusual noises or rubbing; re-torque fasteners after a short test drive if recommended.
