Instructions:
- Disconnect the negative battery cable before beginning work.
- Locate the horn switch lead (usually the wire going to the horn from the steering column) and the horn(s) themselves; label wires if needed.
- Mount the relay in a dry, secure location near the firewall or inner fender using existing holes or a small screw/bolt.
- Identify relay terminals: 30 (fused 12V input), 85 (ground), 86 (trigger from horn switch), 87 (switched output to horn).
- Run a fused 12V feed from an ignition-switched source to relay terminal 30. Use an inline fuse (10–20A) close to the battery or power source.
- Connect the horn switch lead to relay terminal 86. If the original horn lead was grounded on button press, confirm polarity with a multimeter.
- Connect relay terminal 87 to the horn’s positive lead (or to the harness feeding the horn).
- Secure relay terminal 85 to a good chassis ground or the vehicle ground point.
- Re-check all connections for tightness and proper insulation; use heat-shrink or tape on splices and secure wiring with zip ties.
- Reconnect the battery and test horn operation with the ignition on. Verify that the horn only sounds when the switch is pressed and that the inline fuse remains intact.
- If the horn does not operate, re-check wiring and fuses and confirm proper trigger voltage at terminal 86 with a multimeter.
